Coding & STEM Curriculum

Heroes and sparks

Coding fuels innovation and is the foundation of all technology. At Code Super Powers, students are "Code Heroes", and teachers are "Code Sparks". Code Heroes learn best with the guidance of knowledgeable Code Sparks. The main role of Sparks is to IGNITE the passion for coding, and mentor kids on their journeys of creativity and discovery.

Foundational learning

Computer science has revolutionized every aspect of life as we know it. From surgical robots that perform life saving procedures, to self-driving cars which will decrease accidents and traffic congestion.

Even kids who may not want to be developers will benefit from the side effects of learning code. The side effects include, increased critical thinking, logic and problem-solving abilities which are useful in any profession.

The 2019 issue of US News and World Report ranked Software Developer as #1 in 100 Best Jobs. The salary of Sr. Engineers ranges from $155K - $232K. Those who have mastery of computer code, will strive in the 21st century. Coding should be foundational education for every child in America.

Classroom Community

At Code Super Powers, Heroes gain confidence as they become part of a supportive and safe coding community. Heroes use sophisticated and engaging curriculum created by real-world software engineers and educators. The award winning curriculum aligns with Common Core Standards for math and literacy.

The delivery method is key! Essential computational learning is disguised in fun game-based projects, which keep the Heroes engaged, challenged and entertained. Teamwork and collaboration is encouraged on many projects.

The lessons are self-paced, not self-taught. That is a big distinction. Heroes are empowered to drive their own projects, while Sparks are there to assist and motivate every step of the way!

Clear Path to success

The Code Super Powers path to coding success is clearly defined. There are 10 Super Power Levels which coincide with achieving new computational skills. As heroes complete each level of coding disciplines, they are awarded with a new super power!

Heroes are on a mission to obtain all 10 super powers. Achievement milestones are recognized with award ceremonies and cool power achievement badges! This innovative pedagogical method enables kids to retain complex concepts in an easily digestible format.

The best kids coding language to start with is Scratch, which we explore in the 1st level. It opens the gate to all other coding languages. Kids smoothly transition from gaming to real programming.

Super Powers

Heroes start with an introduction to game building using Scratch. Scratch is a programming platform, designed by MIT, that allows Heroes to drag and snap code blocks together to program custom video games and animation. Students advance from block coding to powerful JavaScript and Python coding.

It is essential to make the first experience with coding fun and approachable. This way, kids do not become overwhelmed by programming language syntax. As skills and passion develop, students are able to tackle more complex projects. When they face hurtles, Sparks teach them problem-solving techniques to sharpen critical thinking skills.

STEM infused projects are incorporated at each level. Coding projects include biology, chemistry, anatomy, genetics, physics, math, geology, meteorology, oceanography, and astronomy. Heroes also have fun programming drone flight patterns and Augmented Reality coding. Kids and teens take their imaginations and creativity to new heights at Code Super Powers Camps and After School Enrichment Programs.
